The Crew Company was founded in 1997 by husband and wife team: Katy and David Henthorne. They started in the entertainment industry working on the Paramount Pictures production of “Hard Copy”. Later, both went on to work on Live Award Shows, numerous Documentary Series Television shows, Talk Shows, etc. as producers and production managers. From their production experience, the concept of The Crew Company developed. There was no other Crewing Agency operated by people who truly understood the demands of production–both on set and in the field. They knew what it took from the side of the Production Company, as well as the side of the Crew working in the field. A Crewing Agency is more than a list….it is a respect for what each production needs. This idea, became The Crew Company, which quickly became the go-to company in the entertainment industry and beyond. The Crew List was launched as an innovative new way for industry professionals to find and book crews via the trusted Crew Company name.
Katy graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor’s in Science (’93), after completing her Associates in Arts (’91) at Finger Lakes Community College (SUNY). She began her television career at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood at the NBC sit-com: The Mommies. Thereafter spent several years with the show “Hard Copy”. She soon became the producer for the widely recognized segment “Caught on Tape”. Later, moved on to produce for syndicated talk-shows (“The Leeza Show”, “Marilyn Kagan”) before returning to field production to work with several documentary-style programs for the Discovery Channel, TLC and other syndicated productions. As a former Producer in documentary-style and syndicated television, she has a vast understanding of the field requirements for your production. The Crew Company’s model was a vision of Katy’s after realizing people who utilized Crew Services were not getting everything they should be from other agencies.
Originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin, David graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s in Arts (’89) and soon moved to Los Angeles where he began his television career. He has worked for fast-paced productions such as: “The Arsenio Hall Show”, “Hard Copy”, live-to-air award shows (The Grammy Awards, The Soul Train Awards, etc.), Then moved on to documentary series for The Discovery Channel, TLC, HGTV, and A&E. David was a Production Manager in the entertainment industry for over 10 years before co-founding The Crew Company. He knows that this type of camera crew booking service takes a large amount of stress away from the daily grind of production – the crew search, negotiation, and booking process.
